School furthers one's capacity to love his fellow man, work creatively to develop his reason and objectivity, and have a sense of self. Education within our schools becomes an art form in which educators are active participants in the child's quest for self expression.

Allison's philosophy of teaching -written by her.

children rediscover and have strength in their voice. My philosophy of education combined with my individual strengths, continually challenges me to strive for the synergy that exists between the student and teacher. I am a goal oriented individual who has a deep compassion for others, a multitude of different learning experiences, and an inner drive to continue the quest for knowledge. Both on a professional level and on a personal level - my goal and desire to help rediscover and have strength in their voice.
My compassion for others allows me the opportunity to be both a powerful and effective educator. The ability not only to listen, but to hear others is an important attribute I possess. The security created by my genuine want to hear the child establishes an environment conducive for academic risk taking and learning.
The student feels free to continually challenge himself/herself even in the face of failure. By allowing the child to be heard, confidence in self and capabilities is promoted, igniting the fires of passion to learn within the heart and mind of the student.
Through my desire to understand others, I become an instrumental factor in promoting the harmonious development of the whole child. The world has offered me an endless sea of experience and opportunity.
I have been fortunate to savor success as a world class athlete, feel the wind wisp through my hair as a professional pilot, and sense the heartfilled pride associated with being a life long learner and educator.
Being a multifaceted and multidimensional individual adds uniqueness to my approach in teaching, to my understanding of the talents others possess, and to the individual needs associated different learning styles. Human beings live their lives to the fullest by adding to the quality and meaning of their own experiences and I try utilizing my experiences to enhance the lives of others as well as help others realize their own opportunity.
With each class I teach or child that I tutor, I am reminded of my love to learn and how much I am motivated by the process of learning. Believing that I not only teach the children, but that the children teach me, I often reflect upon and assess my teaching goals and strategies.
Appreciating and valuing the constructive advice and ideas of others, I take it upon myself to observe others teach and have others watch me teach as well. I am grateful the journey as a learner never ends leaving the door open to continual growth.
With enthusiasm and dedication, I accept the responsibility I have as a teacher to be a model of moral, intellectual, and social growth for my students. This commitment combined with the value I place on the process of learning will allow me to be a credit to the program at St.Louis University. Your consideration of my desire and qualifications to become a part of the SLU community is greatly appreciated.
